Ingredients:–          4 inches of ginger

–          2 tablespoons of brown sugar
–          10 bags of standard black tea
–          10 cardamom pods
–          ½ teaspoon of ground pepper
–          ½ teaspoon of ground nutmeg
–          1 teaspoon of ground all spice
–          1 vanilla bean
–          5 star anise
–          3 sticks of cinnamon
–          4 ½ cups of water
–          Cinnamon powder for dusting once finished

Method:

Combine all ingredients in a pan, bring to the boil. Once boiling bring down to a simmer for an hour.  Once infused nicely, strain the mixture, add the sugar to sweeten. Then use a funnel to transfer the mixture into a glass bottle that can be kept in the refrigerator. When the cold weather kicks in, simply heat up some milk, making sure you use 50/50 ratio of chai concentrate and milk, sprinkle with cinnamon and enjoy!

Delicious Eggnog

Eggnog and Christmas go in hand in hand. This simple recipe can be enjoyed by the whole family (or just the adults if you spike it with bourbon). We have used cinnamon and clove, but the beauty of this recipe is that you can change it up depending on your favorite herbs and spices.

Ingredients: (serves 6)

4 egg yolks

–          2 cups of milk
–          1 cup of cream
–          ½ cup of sugar
–          1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
–          1 teaspoon of freshly grated nutmeg
–          2 whole cloves
–          Pinch of cinnamon
–          (Adult option – 2 tablespoons of your favorite bourbon)

Method:

Using a whisk, mix the egg yolks and slowly add the sugar until light and fluffy. In a separate pan combine the cloves, cinnamon and milk until simmering but not boiling. Slowly add the milk mixture into the egg mixture whisking constantly. Then pour back into the pan and heat on a medium heat, stirring the mixture until it begins to thicken, be careful not to let it boil and curdle. Once suitably thickened, remove from the heat and stir in the cream. Strain the mixture to remove the cloves and let it cool. Once cooled, stir in the nutmeg and vanilla extract (add the bourbon now if you like). Se

rve or keep in the refrigerator and serve when your guests arrive.

Spiced Vodka

Ingredients (makes 1 litre):

–          3 bay leaves
–          1 quartered nutmeg
–          1 teaspoon of cloves
–          1 teaspoon of all spice berries
–          1 vanilla pod split length ways
–          1 litre of vodka

Method:

Put all ingredient into a glass jar, shake well and leave in a dark place for a month to infuse fully (the longer the better). Every now and again give it a good shake to help the spices and herbs infuse better.

Hot Spiced Cider

Hot Spiced Cider can certainly warm up any occasion and tastes delicious, a great alternative to mulled wine.

Ingredients:

–          1 ½ litres of medium dry cider
–          6 dried apricots
–          1 thinly sliced apple
–          4 whole sticks of cinnamon
–          12 whole cloves
–          8 whole allspice
–          4oz of soft brown sugar

Method:

Mix all ingredients into a pan and heat, wait until the sugar has dissolved and strain with a sieve. Serve in any heat proof glass and let your senses come alive.

Hot Mulled Apple Juice

Hot Mulled Apple Juice lets the kids get involved whilst the grown-ups enjoy their alcoholic mulled wine.

Ingredients (serves 6):

–          1 ½ liters of apple juice
–          Peel of 1 whole orange – cut into strips
–          Peel of 1 whole lemon – cut into strips
–          4 tablespoons of maple syrup
–          2 whole cinnamon sticks
–          6 whole all spice berries
–          6 whole cloves

Method:

Put the maple syrup and apple juice into a pan. Meanwhile place the cinnamon sticks, allspice berries, lemon and orange peel and cloves into a muslin spice bag. Tie with string and place in the pan. Place the pan on a medium heat for 5-10, careful not to boil it. Once removed from heat, remove the muslin bag, and serve in heat proof glasses – Yum.

The seeds of the flower were even cold pressed to make an oil which helped address gastrointestinal disorders. 1. Balance Hormones

For hundreds of years, women throughout the world have been using evening primrose oil as a natural, safe and effective way to combat the symptoms associated with menstruation and menopause, thanks to its ability to achieve hormonal balance.

How does it do this? Well, evening primrose oil is an extremely rich source of an omega 6 fatty acid called Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA). Getting enough GLA is crucial to support overall hormonal function within the body. In fact, many women with Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) struggle to convert the fats they eat into GLA.

That’s why symptoms of PMS – such as breast tenderness, bloating, water retention, acne, depression and irritability – are often reportedto subside after supplementing with GLA in the form of evening primrose oil.

    Mix 2 drops of thyme oil and 5 drops of lavender oil in 2 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil. Massage into the scalp and wash off after 15-20 minutes.

    7. Lemon Essential Oil

    This citrus flavored oil comes from the oil glands on lemon rinds. It is a drying and clarifying oil ideal for an oily scalp. If you have dandruff or scalp acne along with oily hair, lemon oil can help. It is antiseptic and antimicrobial, helping to resolve secondary infections that often complicate acne and dandruff.

    How to use:

    For combating an oily scalp and dandruff, mix 5-6 drops of lemon oil with 2 Tbsp jojoba oil and rub into the scalp. Wash it off with a mild herbal shampoo after an hour or two.

    To remove excess oil from hair, use lemon oil in warm water as a rinse after washing your hair. Rinse again in plain water.

    8. Peppermint Essential Oil

    Peppermint oil has a cooling effect we are all familiar with. When applied on the skin, it improves blood flow to the area. This property is very useful for rejuvenating hair follicles and promoting hair growth. Its cleansing action opens up clogged pores and encourages normal flow of skin oils, making it ideal for people with dry scalp. It also helps control dandruff associated with dry skin.

    How to use:

    Mix 5 drops each of peppermint oil and lavender oil in 2 Tbsp warm coconut oil. Apply to your scalp and leave it on for 15-20 minutes. Wash off with shampoo.

    Although peppermint oil is cooling, it can cause skin irritation, especially in people who have an adverse reaction to mint-family plants. Test on a small area of skin before applying on your scalp.

    9. Patchouli Essential Oil

    Patchouli oil is obtained from the flowers and leaves of Pogostemon cablin, a plant related to mint. Its strong, musky smell can be quite overpowering if used in large amounts, but it improves over time.  

    Patchouli leaves were traditionally used for skin and hair care in many Asian countries. Its anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties make it excellent for treating many skin and scalp problems. People with eczema, dandruff and dermatitis can greatly benefit from this essential oil because these problems are often the underlying causes of hair loss.

    How to use:

    Mix 2-3 drops of patchouli oil and 5-6 drops of rosemary oil in 2 Tbsp of argan oil which complements the anti-dandruff and anti-acne action of patchouli oil. Massage the mixture into the scalp and leave it on for an hour or two. Wash off with shampoo. Use a lemon or lavender oil rinse if you want to mask the smell of patchouli.

    10. Tea Tree Oil

    Tea tree oil extracted from the Australian treeMelaleuca alternifolia has been popularly used to treat almost any skin and hair problem. It is considered the number one remedy for dandruff. It moisturizes the scalp and relieves dryness and itching.

    Tea tree oil works deep into the hair follicles, unclogging them and helping with normal flow of the skin oils. It is also known for itsantimicrobial action, which helps resolve fungal infections as well as scalp acne complicated by secondary bacterial growths.

    How to use:

    For promoting hair growth, mix 2-3 drops of tea tree oil to 1-2 Tbsp sweet almond oil or coconut oil. Since this essential oil is very strong, the carrier oil should be first applied on the scalp before the oil mixture is used. Wash off after 15-20 minutes.

    For dandruff and acne control, add 4-5 drops to 1 Tbsp of shampoo and use it to wash your hair.

    11. Vetiver Essential Oil

    Vetiver oil is a sweet-smelling oil with a cooling effect. It is extracted from the aromatic roots of a grass called Chrysopogon zizanioides. It helps reduce hair loss resulting from excessive heat in the body. High-stress levels also may cause premature balding and graying. The calming and soothing effect of vetiver oil cools the mind and body, reducing stress. It has excellentantioxidant action to prevent premature aging of hair follicles due to free radical damage.

    How to use:

    Mix 5-6 drops of vetiver oil in 2 Tbsp warm almond oil and massage into the scalp. Wash off after 2 hours if you prefer, but you can leave it overnight too, using a towel to or cap to cover the head.

    12. Ylang Ylang Essential Oil

    Ylang ylang oil highly valued in perfumery is obtained from the flowers of the Cananga odorata tree. This oil is especially useful for combating scalp dryness due to insufficient sebum production in the skin glands. This often leaves the hair thin and brittle, leading to a drastic reduction in hair volume.

    Ylang-ylang oil stimulates the sebaceous glands and increases sebum production. This moisturizes the scalp and the hair.

    Another way Ylang ylang oil promotes hair growth is by reducing stress and associated hormonal imbalances that often lead to hair loss. This oil has been found to be effective ingetting rid of head lice, making it a safer alternative to pesticide formulations.

    How to use:

    For hot oil treatment, warm 2 Tbsp of olive oil or coconut oil and add 5 drops of ylang-ylang oil. Apply it to the scalp and cover the head with a towel dipped in warm water.  The warm, moist atmosphere created inside the wet towel helps the essential oil to penetrate deep into the skin glands and rejuvenate them. Wash your hair after an hour. You can add a few drops of this fragrant essential oil to the final rinse too.

    Step 3I find the best way to apply the mask it use a hair coloring brush or a natural pastry brush. Section your hair into four equal parts, then part your hair in half inch sections. Pile your hair into a bun and let it sit for 15-20 minutes, then wash with a mild and natural shampoo. I did not need an additional conditioner.

Make Your Own Reed Diffuser

Reed diffusers gently perfume the air but they can also be incredibly expensive and often not made with natural ingredients. They are so easy to make using just a few ingredients and a few dollars. Here’s how…

Materials:

– a reed diffuser bottle (such as this one)
– essential oils (e.g. lavender, rosemary, eucalyptus)
– reeds or bamboo skewers (such as these)
– vodka
– water

Instructions:

– Fill the reed diffuser bottle with water, add a few tablespoons of vodka and an essential oil of your choice. Use the ration of 12 drops of essential oil per 1/4 cup of water. Mix the ingredients together.

– Place one end of the reeds into the solution, allow to soak and then reverse the reeds so the opposite end is submerged. You’ll need to rotate the reeds weekly.

Make Your Own Herbal Incense

Incense is another product with harmful additives and toxins that you wouldn’t expect. Luckily you can make your own herbal incense at home and it’s surprisingly easy.

Make Your Own Scented Candles

Many store bought candles contain paraffin which releases carcinogenic chemicals when burned, they may also have lead cores in the wick which releases harmful amounts of lead, and they often contain artificial scents which can be irritants or trigger allergic reactions.Ingredients

  • Beeswax (6-8 oz)
  • Essential Oil (I used 2 ml patchouli and 2 ml vetiver) *
  • NOTE the author of the original recipe used patchouli & vetiver, we used lavender and lemon in our version. Sorry for any confusion.

  • Supplies:
  • 4 oz glass jar
  • 1 wick
  • A set of chop sticks
  • Pyrex measuring cup
  • Small soup pot
  • 10 ml graduated cylinder (optional)

Instructions

  1. Measure 6 oz. of beeswax (1 and 1/2 jar full). If you want the candle to fill right to the top use 8 oz. (2 jars full).
  2. Wipe your Pyrex cup with jojoba.
  3. Melt the beeswax in the Pyrex (see video for details).
  4. Place the wick in the jar using the chop sticks shown in the video.
  5. Measure your essential oil.
  6. Once the beeswax is melted, add the essential oil to the beeswax and stir.
  7. Pour slowly into the glass jar so to not disturb the wick.
  8. Allow it to solidify for several hours before burning.

As always, you can make your own natural alternatives at home and making your own candles is incredibly simple.

Make Your Own Natural Room Scents

7 DIY Ideas To Make Your Home Smell AmazingThese stunningly beautiful natural room scents can be simmered on the stove to add a beautiful fragrance to your home using only cheap and natural ingredients. Add fruits, herbs, spices and extracts to water and gently simmer for a slow release of beautiful aroma.Keeping the supply list simple. I only used items available at the grocery store or in my yard for these scent recipes. I want this to be easy and inexpensive so that I can set up a sustainable routine of pleasantly scenting our home. These recipes are simply guidelines and don’t have to be followed exactly. In fact, I change them up all the time based on what I have on hand in my kitchen or yard. Fragrant items for naturally scenting your home:

  • citrus — I’ve tried other fruits. Some of them smell good initially, but they don’t hold up for more than one use. Citrus is sturdier, longer-lasting, and gives these scent recipes freshness. Lemons and oranges are particularly fragrant and have the best staying power in these scented waters.
  • herbs — Any herb can be used for making a room scent, but the ones that are sturdier and on woody twigs hold up the best. My favorites for room scents are rosemary and thyme.
  • pine or cedar twigs/needles — There may be other fragrant trees that will work, too; pine and cedar are the two I’ve tried for their appealing, fresh fragrance.
  • extracts — A touch of vanilla or almond extract improves most room fragrance mixtures. Mint extract has a nice fresh scent. You can also use whole vanilla beans instead of vanilla extract; pricey but amazingly fragrant. Amazon has a good bulk price (80% less than grocery store prices).
  • spices — You can use ground or whole sweet spices. The whole spices look prettier, if your scented water will be in a location where it will be seen. I have found that cinnamon sticks and whole cloves have the most scent staying power. Cinnamon sticks can be rinsed off and reused several times. They keep on giving.Five Natural Room Scent Recipes

    These are all scents that my nose likes. But, scents that are pleasing to one person may not be to someone else. Consider how many different scents of perfumes, soap, and candles there are in stores in an effort to appeal to the masses. So, use my recipe combos as guidelines that you can tweak and customize to suit what your nose likes.

    General procedure: Combine the ingredients in a 2 cup (pint) jar or container, or in a pan on the stove top. Cover them with water and heat. I’ll explain different heating options further down. 

  • Scent #1: Oranges, cinnamon & cloves (allspice and anise are optional). This is my favorite, both for it’s wonderful aroma and for it’s staying power. This scent carries into multiple rooms better, and it can be reheated to scent your rooms for several days.

  • Scent #2: Lemon, rosemary, & vanilla. A similar scented water is often simmering in Williams-Sonoma stores. It has a lovely freshness to it.  

  • Scent #3: Lime, thyme, mint & vanilla extract. This combination has such a fresh, pleasant scent. I initially made it without the mint extract, but have found that it really kicks up the aroma.

  • Scent #4: Orange, ginger (fresh or powdered), and almond extract. This is a sweet, delicious scent. 

  • Scent # 5: Pine or cedar twigs (or other fragrant twigs), bay leaves, and nutmeg. These scents combine for a complex aroma. If you have whole nutmeg, use a microplane to grate off the outer surface–this will release the scent. Add the whole nutmeg piece along with the gratings.Here’s the gang of five. Aren’t they beautiful? I like to make these up in pint jars and keep them on hand in the fridge so I’m ready to start a pot of simmering scents as needed. DIY Natural Room Scents.     Make ahead and…

    • …store in the fridge. Uncooked jars of scented waters will keep in the fridge for 1 to 2 weeks, so you can make these ahead to have on hand. I recommend adding all of the ingredients, including the water, to the jars before refrigerating them. I’ve tried refrigerating the fruit/spice/herb combos in jars without the water, but they don’t last as long that way.
    • …freeze them.  I’ve tried freezing them both with and without the water added, and both ways work fine. I haven’t tested them in the freezer longer than 2 weeks, but I’m confident that they can be frozen for a month or longer. Make sure you use freezer-safe jars like thesepint wide-mouth mason jars. (Not all mason jars are freezer-safe.)

    How to heat the scented mixtures

    I’ve tried a variety of methods, and all of these work to varying degrees. Some of them provide a more powerful scent than others. Just like the air fresheners you buy, none of these will scent a whole house; but I’ll show you some ways to set up individual scent sources in multiple rooms. Hopefully you already have what you need to try out one or more of these options.DIY Natural Room Scents. Add fragrance to your home using simmering waters infused with spices, herbs, & fruit.     Uncovered Slow Cooker Method. This is my personal favorite. I use a mini slow cooker–the kind made for keeping dips and sauces warm. Mine only has one low heat setting. The mixture never actually bubbles and visibly steams. I leave it uncovered on my kitchen counter to slowly release scent throughout the day. It’s subtle, but creates a pleasant smell in my kitchen and a hint of scent in surrounding rooms. When I’m home, I keep my mini slow cooker going. It’s easy and uses very little electricity. When I fill mine in the morning, it won’t dry out for an entire day. If you’re concerned about accidentally letting it run dry, you can put a lamp timer on it so that it automatically shuts off at the desired time. I put a scented jar mixture in the microwave for 2 minutes to get it really hot before I add it to the slow cooker. That gives it a jump start on releasing the scent.  NOTE: For a stronger scent, simply double or triple the recipe in a larger, full-size slow cooker and set it on high.

    Stove top method. This is by far the best way I’ve found to get the most powerful scent that will spread to more rooms the fastest. It’s easy as can be. Simply combine the ingredients in a pot on the stove, bring them to a boil, and then lower the heat to a simmer. They will immediately begin to scent your kitchen and spread to other rooms. How far the scent spreads depends on the size and layout of your house. A simmering pot like this makes all four rooms on our first floor smell good. The only drawback of this method is that you have to keep a close eye on the water level. If the pan dries out, you’ll be smelling burned citrus instead of sweet, fragrant citrus.  NOTE: For a stronger scent, simply double or triple the recipe in a larger pot on the stove.Uncovered Slow Cooker Method. This is my personal favorite. Candle warmers come with a little bowl on top for melting scented candle pellets. Instead, you can add some heated scented water. Or, remove the bowl and set a jar or other bowl on top. 

    • Note: I tested the temperatures of these with a thermometer. The mug warmer and candle warmer both kept the mixture at about 120°F. That’s enough to let off a very subtle scent in a small area or room, but don’t expect these to strongly scent a big room. You need more heat and steam for a stronger scent.

Making your own dried potpourri is a fun DIY project that also makes your home smell amazing. You can customize the fragrances with all sorts of different scents by using dried fruit, herbs, spices and essential oils.

Coffee Potpourri

  • Fresh ground coffee beans (ideally – instant coffee will do, too)
  • Optionally, any or all of the following: vanilla extract,almond extract, cinnamon sticks, orange peel, carob chips, chickory. Anything that tastes good in coffee will work, (except for creamer and cocoa powder, which don’t simmer very well).

    Mint Potpourri

    You could fancy it up with lemon verbena or rosemary or almost anything, but seriously: a few drops of peppermint extract or essential oil in a cup of water, simmering. That’s all you need.

    Fresh mint from the garden is another way to go. This can yield a slightly more “green” scent than you get from peppermint extract or oil.

    Cilantro Mint Potpourri

    Put mint extract and dried cilantro into your simmering pot. It makes one of those scents you can’t stop inhaling because it’s wonderful and fascinating.

    If you want to do a little more work, you can create dried potpourris which will let off scent just sitting a bowl, or wrapped in a sachet, or even from simmering. In fact, simmering is a great way to get one last burst of scent from dried potpourri that’s losing its aroma. Dried potpourri is also great for gifting. Just put it in a littlecellophane gift bag, tie it with a ribbon, add a printable gift tag, and you’ve got a gorgeous little gift.

    If you want to up your game, a dehydrator will really speed up your dried potpourri projects, and also seal in more scent.

    Here are some dried potpourri recipes to get you started:

    1. Citrus Zing. Lemon verbena, lemon balm and lemon thyme, with marjoram and other common household spices and some essential oils

    3. Apple potpourri. Dried apple slices, cinnamon, cloves, pine cones and berries

    5. Kitchen potpourri. Apples, oranges, limes, lemons, cranberries, vanilla and spices. This is guaranteed to get the smell of last night’s cooked salmon out of there!

Make Your Own Deodorizing Spray (Or Febreze)

Febreze is supposed to freshen up your home and fabrics – but it’s packed full of toxic chemicals that are dangerous to our health. Plus it can be outrageously expensive.

It is so simple to make that you’ll never have to buy it again.

Materials:

– a spray bottle (such as this one)
– distilled water
– one teaspoon of baking soda
– 12 drops of essential oil – such as lavender, eucalyptus

Instructions:

– Add the baking soda to a bowl, add the essential oil and mix.

– Using a funnel, pour the baking soda into the spray bottle and top up with distilled water.

– Shake and spray!

    The History of Balinese Massage Treatment

    The existence of Balinese massage has been known since hundreds of years ago and it mentioned on well – preserved ancient Balinese manuscripts. Balinese massage is one of Balinese healing treatments which is inspired by techniques from various cultures.

    A strong influence comes from classical Hindu medical science based on Ayurvedic texts. Over a thousand years ago, merchant ships regularly traveled through the Spice Island which is now called Indonesia. Hindus from India brought healing massage techniques and oil massage as well as herbal treatments. From China, came the influence of acupressure techniques brought by the Buddhist.

    During the Majapahit reign in Indonesia from 500 – 1500 AD, many beauty treatments were developed in the palaces of central Jave for the royal family. Besides healing massage, techniques were developed for relaxation and beauty and beauty purposes during this time. When islamic conversion of royalty moved to east java and Bali from 1478 – 1520 bringing their knowledge and culture with them.

    Traditionally, massage in Java is performed by a woman and in Bali by a man. Although massage in Java is often used for healing, it is also performed for relaxation and beautification. However, in Bali massage was used only for healing, today as tourism began to grow, massage for relaxation was introduced. Some Swedish massage techiques have been introduced to the Balinese Massage.

    Ayurveda the word is literally composed of two words ” Ayu ” and ” Veda “. ” Ayu ”  means life and ” Veda “, knowlegde.

    History : The Wisdom of Ayurveda was first recollected by Brahma, the creator at the time of creation. He composed a treatise on Ayurveda and taught Prajapathi, the protector, of the people, who passed the knowledge of Ayurveda to Aswini Devas, the physicians of Gods. Indra, the King of Deva ( God ) learned this science of life from Aswini Devas,. Seeing the suffering and miseries of humanity indulgent and ignorant, afflicted with diseases, compassion and kindness arose in the hearts of great sages of ancient land. Unable to withdraw and detach tren the transient and dangerous worldly life. humanity was at constant risk of diseases and detach miseries. sages decided to find out a path to live in this world without diseases and sufferings. They meditated on the slopes of snowy Himalayas and found in their intuition only Indra can five them a solution. From Indra this healing science was handed down to the sage who propagated it through treatises and tradition of master physicians.

    Ayurvedic treatment is divided into eight branches. These are:

    1. Kayachikitsa – this branch deals with general treatment of disease affecting whole body
    2. Salyatantra – surgical treatment are used inthis branch of Ayurveda
    3. Salakyatantra – treatment of disease affecting  head and neck region are dealt with in this branch
    4. Agadatantra – treatment of poisons and bites

Health is a state of balanced functioning of ” Doahas ” which produces a proper ‘Agni ‘ characterized by normal formatio  of Dhatus and evacuation of Malas . The individual experiences a pleasant state of senses, mind and soul in this condition. This Harmony could get disrupted at any time leading to diseases and misery.     Practicing of Dinacharya Dinacharya is the “law of nature” and the key component to living a long life, ripe with vitality and complete mind/body health. This routine is based on the sun and moon’s energetic effect on digestion, mental focus, creativity and the potential for spiritual awareness and growth.

    A dinacharya sets timeframes each day when we should sleep, wake, conduct self-care, eat, work, and do our spiritual practices like yoga and meditation. These times center on the three doshas — vata,kapha, and pitta (find more about the doshas here)— assigning each dosha two separate 4-hour periods where these qualities are most present.

    Doshas and the Ayurvedic Clock

    • Vata time: 2 a.m. – 6 a.m.; 2 p.m. – 6 p.m.

    During vata time, we’re creative and inquisitive, and attuned to the more subtle energies present in the Universe and within ourselves. The morning hours are best for our spiritual practices and inner focus, and the afternoon is best to work and socialize. Both periods are ideal for creative expression.

    • Kapha time: 6 a.m. – 10 a.m.; 6 p.m. – 10 p.m.

    During kapha time, our digestive fire is more slow and our and minds are in a restful state. In the morning, we should decreasekapha’s sluggishness through being awake, exercising, and eating foods that are stimulating yet easy to digest. In the evening, we should allow our bodies to wind down through a light, nourishing meal, gentle exercise, and self-care.

    • Pitta time: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.; 10 p.m. – 2 a.m.

    During pitta time, our digestive fire is at its peak, in terms of both our ability to digest foods and to digest emotions and experiences. The midday period is when we should eat our largest meal of the day, and ideally we will be sleeping before the nighttime period begins so that we can properly digest and assimilate everything from the day.

    Ayurvedic Dinacharya

    • Before 6 a.m. — Wake, do tongue scraping and oil pulling, rinse face and eyes with cool water, and drink large glass of warm water (with lemon if you like). If you’re already awake before this time, meditate, pray, and do other spiritual practices after the waking routine.
    • 6 a.m. – 10 a.m. — Morning exercise (yoga, pranayamaand meditation ideally), self-massage with oil and bath or shower. Eat a light but nourishing breakfast appropriate for your dosha.
    • 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. — Eat your largest meal of the day between noon and 1:00 p.m., followed by a short walk outside.
    • 2 p.m. – 6 p.m. —Brainstorm and be creative — this is a great time for your most productive work. Socialize.
    • 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. — Eat a light but nourishing supper between 6 and 7 p.m. (supper is short forsupplemental, so think of your evening meal as nutrition to supplement what you took in earlier in the day). Take a walk outside or exercise for at least 15 minutes shortly after eating. Start your nighttime routine by 8:30 p.m. Evening self-care like a bath, self-massage with oil, gentle or restorative yoga, or light reading are good ways to wind-down.
    • 10 p.m. — Bedtime. Sleep for 6-8 hours a night, depending on your dosha(vata types should aim for 8 hours, pitta for 7 hours, andkapha for 6).​Should you still be awake in the overnight pitta time, avoid snacking, working, or doing other energy-intensive tasks. Your fire will be lit again but it’s a key period for digesting the day, not taking in additional stimuli.

      If you’re unable to commit to this routine fully, simply try the best you can. Ayurveda is not all-in or not-at-all — each step we take toward living an Ayurvedic lifestyle will improve our overall health and happiness, so take it slow but be make an intentional effort to change.

      If you can make just two changes to your current routine, Medha recommends performing a daily self-massage for at least 5-10 minutes in the morning or evening, and eating your biggest meal of the day at lunchtime.
